Why is a monolithic aluminum cast bed better than welded sheet metal?
Sheet-metal cutters tend to flex slightly when you apply pressure to the handle. This causes the breaking force to drift sideways instead of acting purely perpendicular under the score line. The Montolit single-piece casting holds absolute geometry under any pressure, so the tile snaps exactly where it should.
When do I need to use the oil lubrication for the cutting wheel?
Lubrication from the ampoule (OIL) is ideal for glass tiles, mosaics, or tiles with an extremely fragile glass-ceramic glaze. You don't necessarily need it for standard matte gres, but for glass, the oil film prevents microscopic chipping along the score line, keeping the snap surgically clean.
Can this cutter reliably break narrow strips or miter (jolly) edges?
Narrow strips a few centimeters wide cut and break perfectly thanks to the adjustable breaker template. However, if you are making jolly edges (45° miter joints), those cannot be done on a manual cutter – the edge would chip away.
